This assignment is to be completed in four stages,
and each stage has its own due date. To complete the assignment, you must
do the following:
-
Stage One»
First, you must "earn your
PhD" in Textual Criticism. You will learn about the nature of
documents written in antiquity, and acquire a basic understanding of
the difficulties involved in translating ancient texts, then
evaluating the authenticity and historical reliability of those texts.
-
Stage Two»
Second, you will learn about
Josephus. You will study his life and read excerpts from his
writings relevant to the history of First Century Palestine- the time
and place in which Jesus lived (if he existed, of course). You will
need this information to make sure that what Josephus has to say is
consistent with who he was- if it isn't, your skills as a textual
critic should help you explain why.
