C.B.C Band 1947
In the middle of the school year a fortunate event changed the entire band program. Mr. McClaine who directed a fine band in Bartlett, TN mention to Br. Raphael that he knew a fine young man who needed a job as band director or assistant director. Given permission by Brother Laurence, Brother Raphael went with Mr. McClaine to Monticello, Arkansas to meet with a man named Ralph Hale and offer him a job. Naturally he hesitated not knowing just what the Christian Brothers stood for. Ralph Hale had failed at his first position because of "discipline problems." Ralph Hale finally decided to accept the job offer and took over as head of the band. In January Br. Raphael stepped down as band director and helped Ralph Hale as the Band Moderator while teaching a full academic load.

In 1947 the Army helped put up a couple of temporary buildings behind the school property. After the war there buildings would be used by Christian Brothers, one of which became the new band room. There was no floor in the buildings and as stories go Mr. Hale would reward students who would bring in old carpets to cover the dirt in the building.
