1878-79

        Professor Saxby, future Christian Brothers Band director, held a Grand Hop in the Maennerchor Hall on Jefferson and Second on July 4th, 1879.  He promised in the Commercial Appeal that no improper characters would be admitted.  Admission was 25 cents for gentlemen and ladies were admitted for free.  Professor Saxby was not only know for his musicianship, but also for his dancing.
