On December 17th, 1873, the College was honored with a visit from Governor John Brown of Tennessee, accompanied by Messrs. N.M. Jones, W.T. Avery, and members of the press.  The Band rendered several selections, and the governor delivered a stirring address to the students.

The Christian Brothers Band took part in the yearly parade at St. Peter's Church on March 19th, feast of St. Joseph.

On May 8, 1874 the Commercial Appeal writes: "Refreshments at Christian Brothers College festival which opened last night at the Exposition Hall are being served at tables in charge of Misses Julia Semmes, Emma Etheridge, Blanche Speed, Annie Semmes, Fanny O'Rielly, Ada Goodman, Lizzie Babb, Annie McNamara, Molly Dave and Mammie Blackburn. Professor Saxby's band furnishes the music."  Professor Saxby would go on to become the second band director at Christian Brothers in 1893.

The Band was featured frequently in College events of this period, and became more and more in demand for public occasions.  On May 18th, 1874 the band was featured at the second annual Grand Festival held at the Old Exposition Building.
