The following three notebook assignments are due Thursday, February 28

1. Ponder the following and write a several paragraphs on the following: Consider the following characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad. Discuss briefly how each one might have affected his role as the founder of Islam.

  • He was illiterate
  • He was married
  • He was a good businessman and a brilliant administrator

2. You are the leaders of the United States that is now ruled by a mythical religion. What would be different about our country if it were ruled by a religion? What would be some of the notable changes?

3. We talked about how Islam embraced science because it fit in so well with their religious perspective about the natural world. From your own perspective, how well do science and religion go together? Write about five sentences in your notebooks.

WEBQUEST: THE RAMAYANA: FOLLOWING THE DHARMA

For Thursday, April 26 (50 points):

Choose one of the following characters from the Ramayana, and then do the following:


1. Research the character using one or more of the links listed on this page (or other sources that you may find).

2. In a one-page, typed, double-spaced paper…

·         describe the person’s (or god’s, or demon’s or animal’s!) characteristics and traits;

·         describe who the person is and his or her importance in the story;

·         describe if the person does or does not generally follow his or her dharma, and give at least one example;

·         explain whether the person appears in other Hindu texts and what his or her role is;

·         describe how that person is viewed by Hindus today.

·         if a photo is available of your person, print it and include it with your paper. 

3. This assignment is due in class Thursday, April 26. You receive a zero if it is late.
