Re: Tennessee State Swimming Championships

       Feb. 22, 23 and 24, 2007

Centennial Sportsplex, Tracy Caulkins Pool, Nashville

Dear Swimmer and Parent:

We’ve had a very successful season so far, but it’s not over just yet. On Thursday, 2/22/2007, those swimmers who are entered in the State Swimming Championships will depart from school at the end of 3rd period (about 11:00 am). The boys will be excused from school the rest of Thursday and excused for the whole day on Friday, 2/23/07. Upon leaving school on Thursday, we will go to the University of Memphis for a swim before the drive to Nashville - there is no warm-up space at the pool in Nashville on Thursday. We will be assigned a specific warm-up period on both Friday and Saturday mornings.

The state meet is at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville on Friday (2/23) and Saturday (2/24). Check-in for the team is at 5:30 pm and the coach’s meeting is at 7:30 pm Thursday evening (2/22). We have 16 boys attending the meet and we will travel together  in 4 private vehicles. The school has five rooms reserved for the team at the AmeriSuites in Brentwood (1-615-661-9477). Breakfast is provided at the hotel each morning, but the boys will need to have enough money with them for their other meals during our stay. (Big River and Spaghetti Warehouse are the lunch spots on Friday and Saturday). Dinner tends to be more hurried since it’s pretty late when finals are over. The school picks up all other costs – hotel, entry fees and travel.

It is my understanding that many of the parents will be staying in the same hotel. Any swimmer whose parents are there in Nashville can go home from the meet with his parents when he is finished on Saturday. I will return home that night right after the meet with any swimmers who do not have a parent there to take them home. The boys are not allowed to drive themselves, nor can they return from the meet with another student.

Spectator passes are $5.00 per person for the meet, even if you only attend one session. Our team spectators are usually assigned a function at the meet, but as of this time, I have not been informed as to what our duty is this year. (Having a duty station during the meet has been an annual thing for the past many years.) It we rotate that duty through a number of the parents, everyone will then certainly be able to see their son swim his events. We’ll just have to work out that rotation once we have everyone there.

Please sign and return the permission form at the bottom of this letter. The school requires this signed form for dismissal with the team.

Sincerely,

Coach Don Whittington

I understand that my son will miss half a day of school on Thursday, 2/22/07, and a whole day of school on Friday, 2/23/07 to attend the State Swimming Championships.

My son ___________________________________________ has my permission to miss classes to attend the TN State Swimming Championships with the Christian Brothers Swim Team on those dates.

He and I both understand that he is representing his school, his team and himself while at this athletic function and if he does not conform to the team rules regarding behavior and curfew, he will be sent home at my expense.
