A battle to stay alive in the State Tournament, and both teams were ready to fight.  Again the Brothers managed to score early, just not often.  This allowed MBA the chance to stay in the game and create a real dog fight.  A loss meaning the end of the season for either team, made each team fight hard as their back was pushed up against the wall at different times throughout the game.  Putting up crooked numbers in the 4th, 5th, and 6th, gave the Brothers just enough room to pull out a win.  Now they must beat Baylor twice tomorrow to make it to the championship game.

This time the opposition had the chance to score early and often and did so.  Capitalizing on some early mistakes, Baylor put the Brothers behind and would not let them get anything going.  The Purple Wave would threaten often, but just not get that big hit to score runners.  The loss, puts the Brothers in the losers bracket and makes them play a second game today.

Batting first the Brothers wanted to score early and often.  Sending 13 to the plate in the first inning and first five getting on base off 5 hits and one hit batter.  Handling MBA's hitters three-up, three-down, for the first two innings and only facing four in the bottom of the 3rd, the opposition could just not get anything going.  Then in the bottom of the 5th, three singles in a row would load the bases with no outs.  But a ground ball back the pitcher for a 1-2-3 double play, followed by a ground ball to first would complete the shut-out

A bit of a flat start, and not the productive offense the Brothers would customarily show.  Yet they stepped up their focus and got the job done, to win First Place in the Region.  While the Purple Wave would slap six doubles, only one of them would score.  The Owls strong defense would even keep lead off back-to-back doubles in the 4th from producing any runs.  It would take four hits n a row, in teh 5 hit 5th, for the Brothers to create some distance and give Packer the lead he needed to pick up the win.

A rough start had the Brothers behind early.  Good pitching by the Owls kept the Purple Wave's offense at bay for the first two innings, only allowing one hit.  Though the Brothers tied it up in the bottom of the 2nd, that was short lived as MUS answered in their next at bat to regain the lead.  Then in the 5th the Brother's bats came alive.  3 doubles and 3 singles later the Brothers put six runs on the board with no errors, two of the runs would come with two outs.  With an established rhythm, Skinner would only allow two hits in the last two innings, and solid defense would not allow the Owls to score.

In the first game of the Regional Tournament, Tipton-Rosemark came out strong, with a double and a single to score the runner that got on by a Brother's error.  After the Purple Wave fought back in their half to take a 3 run lead, the Rebels offense faded.  But the Brothers would not let up.  Hitting in every inning, and with six doubles, the bases were kept occupied and scoring opportunities for the Purple Wave were plentiful.

Attacking the baseball the Brothers took the lead in their first at bat and kept adding to it before they would allow the Eagles to the plate.  Matt Packer would face only 16 batters through 5 innings and not give up a second hit until the bottom of the 7th.  Three separate Brothers would get extra base hits and 8 different hitters would combine for the Brother's 9 hits.  This game caps off the regular season for the Purple Wave and secures them the number one seed in the District with a perfect 10-0 record.

Runners left at second and third in the bottom of the 1st was a sign of the difficulty the Brothers would have scoring.  3-up, 3-down in the 2nd and 3rd and it would be the 4th inning before the Purple Wave would second hit.  Lead off single, stolen base, another single and the Brothers had one run, but were then shut down.  But in the 5th single, double, walk, single and three runs off three hits.  A pitching change and the Brothers were shut down for the rest of the game.  With Skinner's solid performance, spreading 4 hits over 4 separate innings, Harding's offense was kept in check.  Not allowing a runner past second base, Skinner and the Purple Wave defense made the 4 runs more than enough to win the game.

Hitting early and often, the Brother's first four batters got on base and would score.  St. Benedict would fight back scratching for two in the bottom of the first.  Volpe would then hold them scoreless for the next three innings, allowing only 3 hits in four innings as the Purple Wave would tack on three more.  Will Shorter would close out the last three innings and also allow only three hits.  Unfortunately for Will, all three hits would be in succession and produce two runs for the Eagles.  With the aid of the Purple Wave's third double and a homerun, Shorter would have a comfortable 11-2 lead so that Eagle's last two runs did not pose too much of a threat.  One game of quality at bats does not mean the have 'picked it up'.

Lack of a powerful offense made the no-hitter, crucial but less enjoyable.  The Saints challenged the Brothers to make the plays defensively and at the plate.  Leaving four runners in scoring position (3 with less than two outs) in the first 5 innings, it would not be until the 7th that the Purple Wave would pickup an RBI.  Struggling to find those double digit hit games, did the Brothers peak too early?  As tournament time approaches, and a week of league play at hand, can they pick it up?

Friday night at home, the Purple Wave offense would show up and give Thompson all the run support he would need to earn a complete game victory.  Only allowing more than one hit in an inning (the 4th), the Red Devils had a hard time scoring.  In the 4th all but one Red Devil that got in scoring position did cross the plate.  But pitching and defense would strand four other Germantown baserunners.  While on the Brother's side, three doubles and two homeruns helped to put runners on base in all but the 6th  for the Purple Wave.

A tremendous pitching performance by Skinner had him pitching out of jams the defensive errors presented.  Germantown had 10 runners in scoring position and was only able to produce one run.  On the other hand, the Brothers had two big two out doubles that drove runners in from first.  Held to only five hits, the Purple Wave offense was unable to get rolling to compliment Skinners efforts.

Championship time.  Game 4 in three days for both teams would prove to be a slugfest.  Sending nine to the plate in the top of the 1st‑ the Brothers would rack up 4 hits and take an early three run lead.  BGA would answer with a lead off double that would score to nibble at the lead.  Sending ten hitters the plate in the top of the 2nd, the Purple Wave got that run back, and a few more.  But the tone was set, and hitting and scoring was the theme for the afternoon.  The Beast would be tamed by the Wildcasts first, and second.  BGA’s grandslam in the bottom of the 3rd  would put them up by one and cap off their 6 run inning.  The second, a solo shot in the bottom half of the 5th would put the Brothers down by two.  Brother’s pride and determination would be apparent as they would throw up their own 6 run inning and send their own shot (a 2 RBI blast) over the Beast.  Now up by four, the Purple Wave would toughen up and close out the Wildcat’s last two inning three-up, three-down and not allow them to get any offense going.

Racking up a hit in all but the 2nd inning, the Purple Wave put themselves in position to score often.  Timely extra base hits would drive in runs, and leave a man in scoring position to be driven in by a later Brother.  The Beast (20ft high, 200ft long left field wall) would be brought down by the Brother’s ball still rising as it was driven over the wall.  Yet walks plagued the Brother’s pitching in early innings and presented David Lipscomb with several base runners.  Tough defense and determined pitching would hold Lipscomb to only getting one of those walks across the plate.  Down by 9, Lipscomb led off the 6th with a double and would scratch off two more hits to push 5 across the plate, but not enough to close the gap the Brother’s offense created from earlier innings.

John Michael Skinner threw a great game!  Only allowing more than one Eagle on base in the same inning, once.  And the Eagles would capitilize on that opportunity, along with the only Brother's error, to score.  The Brothers would slap four hits in the bottom of the first, including Blake Forsythe's RBI double, and continue to add more in 2nd and 3rd.  Needing that elusive 10th run, Drew Smith would lead off the bottome of the 6th with a base hit, and wind up scoring three batters later to end the game.

Taking an early lead and consistently adding to it, put the Purple Wave in a position to mount a comeback after the Eagles had a big inning in the top of the sixth.  Though the Brothers gave up 5 runs in that half inning, scoring in four of the five previous innings had them only down by two.  On a cold afternoon, the pitching and defense just could not close out an inning.  Seven of ECS's nine runs, were scored with two outs.  Josh Shelton's two doubles would drive in four runs, and David Clayton's two-out double would also pick him up an RBI.  With two or three baserunners an inning, the Purple Wave would manage to get at least one of them around to score, except for the 4th when Eagle pitching and defense would not allow a Brother's hit.

On a cold, damp (wet in the outfield) night the Brothers faced off against the Owls for their first District game of the season.  Ignoring the adverse conditions, the Brothers answered Packer's 3-K top of the first with three hits and two runs.  Getting runners on base, either by walks or hits, the bottom of the 4th would be the only other inning in which they would scratch.  Sending 10 to the plate, and 4 timely hits in that inning would widen the gap.  David Clayton, Matt Pakcer and Alan Wright would all record extra base hits.

Great pitching saw John Michael Skinner throw 6 innings of the 'no-no' and Seth Walker close out the 'no-no' with 1 inning of save work. Both teams made all the defensive plays necessary to keep the baserunners away from scoring.  Alan Wright would get the only extra base hit of the game and then score on a pass ball in the first inning.  Only one other Brother would reach third base in the game, and none of McCallie's runners would pass second.

Though the Brothers would send 18 hitters to the plate in the first three innings, only four of them would cross the plate.  Jason Volpe  threw four three up-three down innings and  kept Dyer County from establishing much of a scoring threat.  Later innings saw Dyer County's pitcher settle down, and quiet the Brother's bats.

Slapping hits in every inning, and multiple hits in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings, the Purple Wave gave their pitching room to work in comfort.  Except for the 3rd, when Hornlake would scratch for 2, Drew Brooks would not allow a runner past second.  Not willing to go down without a fight, Hornlake lake would put together a two-hit 5th and capitalize on a fielding error to scratch three runs of relief work of Will Shorter.  The Brother's offense would not rest, and answered in the bottom of the 5th against exhausted pitching and end the game.

First game of the season you'd expect hitting to be above pitching.  But this game both pitchers had great stuff.  Putting together a 4 hit 3rd inning, the Brothers were able to score first.  Packer's 19 strikeout, complete game did not allow the Cardinals more than one opportunity to think about scoring, which, without a throwing error, might not have even happened.  Alan Wright picked up the first RBI, Matt Packer's double earned him the second RBI and set up Josh Shelton to drive in the third Purple Wave runner.
