Lead off double by Jeremy Finney (3-4, 2 doubles), fly ball, ground ball and the Brothers would take the lead early and not let up.  Logan Forsythe (2-3, double) would be the only other hitter to record multiple hits in the game as 6 Brothers boys would get timely hits, and move the ball around the field to score those on base.  The defense was solid, when Drew Clothier called upon them.  Clothier faced only  14 hitters in 4 innings of work and recorded 7 K's and 3 ground ball outs.  John Daush closed the game out, 3-up, 3-down in the bottom of the 5th.

The Brother's close out the Regional Tournament 4-0, to remain undefeated in their district & region.  Chase Carpenter earned his first decision hitting his spots, and the defense made all the plays behind him (except for the one error).  John Morgan (2-4, double, 2 RBI's), Alan Wright (1-2, RBI double, and a great diving stop to throw a runner out at first), Danial Vanaman (1-1, double), Bryan Rainey (1-2), Jimmy Washam (1-3, 2 RBI's HR), Matt Packer (1-3) were six of the seven Brothers that combined for the 8 hits.

How much Drew Clothier would like to have one pitch back.  Facing only 16 batters in 5 innings, Clothier's 12 strikeouts was only slightly scuffed by his one walk, SBEC's only base runner.  A couple errors in the bottom of the first gave the Brother's their first run, and three base runners without a hit.  Then in the bottom of the 2nd, Jimmy Washam (2-3, double, HR) would take the first pitch over the left field fence.  Then it was on, four hits and twelve batters later the Trojans came to the plate down 7-0.  As Clothier kept the Trojan's balls on the ground, and swinging at air, the Brother's continued to pile on hits and score runs.  Jeremey Finney (2-3, 2 RBI's), would be the only Brother besides Washam to record multiple hits as seven Brother's Boys combined for the nine hits and six RBI's.

St. Benedict came out swinging and hitting the ball on the nose all over the field to hold onto the lead for the 3 1/2 innings. The Brothers would not be outdone.  They smacked five hits in the first two innings, two of which were doubles to keep it a one run game.  A lead off single in the 4th by Alan Wright followed with one by John Morgan would set things up for Bryan Rainey to break open the game with a double to right field.  And then the bottom of the 5th.  Quiet Morgan would pop up to center, with the bases loaded and the Eagle dugout would erupt.  When the storm would calm, Morgan would be on second, with a 2 RBI double.  In the 6th a few hard hit balls, and a couple walks would load the bases and pull the defense in tight.  Grant Box's pinch hit single through the right side would drive in two to end the game.  John Morgan (3-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI's), Daniel Vanaman (3-4, RBI), and Bryan Rainey (2-3, 2 RBI double) would be the Brother's hitters to get multiple hits in the 14 hit game.

Daniel Vanaman's 2 RBI double after walks to the first two batters would give the Brothers their first two runs, by their first two batters.  Sending 6 to the plate the first two innings would be the offense for the night.  3-up, 3-down in the third, fourth and fifth, and only 4 up in the sixth, the Rebel defense and pitching would shut down the Purple Wave's sticks.  Two walks and a double for Jeremy Finney, a double and a walk for Dylan Bateman would give them each a 1-1 night.  Brent Moss (1-2, RBI) would earn the only other Brother's hit.

The Brothers close out their regular season with a victory at home to finish first in the district with a league record of 10-0.  Three doubles in the bottom of the first inning put the Purple Wave in a commanding 7 run lead.  Nine different batters would contribute to the eleven hits; Alan Wright (2-2, double) and Josh Speerly (2-3, RBI double) would be the only batters to record multiple hits.  Drew Clothier got the victory with three scoreless innings of work on the mound, and Chase Carpenter kept the momentum to kept the Lions scoreless for the last two innings.

For three innings the Brothers could not get a hit, and only one base runner off a walk.  ECS did not fair much better.  In two innings, two walks and an infield error would give the Eagles their only 3 base runners of the game.  Matt Packer would put the Eagles away, 3-up, 3-down for the last four innings of the game.  Following Packer setting down the Eagles in order, in the bottom of the third, the Purple Wave offense would respond.  Brent Moss would lead off the fourth with a triple then back-to-back singles with another triple and yet another single, the Brothers would tack on 5.  The Brothers continued the momentum with another 8 hits and 8 runs in the next two innings.  Logan Forsythe (2-2, RBI, 2 walks), Jimmy Washam (3-4, triple, 3 RBI's), Jeremy Finney (2-4, RBI double), Brent Moss (1-2, triple, 2 walks), Daniel Vanaman (1-3, RBI),  John Morgan (1-3, 2 RBI triple).

A lead off walk followed by two singles and the Brothers quickly found themselves behind the Saints.  John Daush quickly gained his composure and with a solid defense behind him, shut down the Saints for the next 5 innings.  With their backs to the wall, and wanting to spoil the Purple Wave's undefeated district record, the Saints put together a 4 hit, 5 run top of the 7th.  Needing 9 to tie, they just came up too short too late.  Powering the Brother's offense; Jimmy Washam (2-2), Jeremy Finney (2-3, triple), Daniel Vanaman (1-2, 2 RBI's), Logan Forsythe (1-1, RBI double), Matt Packer (1-1, 2 RBI's) and Grant Box (1-1, 2 RBI homerun).

Two 5 walk innings gave Collierville enough base runners to run rule the Brothers.  11 runs off 6 hits is not impressive, and impressive is not what it took to beat the Brothers.  In the third, the five walks were accompanied by two doubles an a single to put the Dragons on top by 6.  With a single in the 6th, to go along with 5 walks, Collierville did what it needed to avoid a 7th inning.  Though the Brothers hit the ball hard, they hit them right at the defense and the Dragons made most all the plays (the 3 errors only lead to one run), and kept the Purple Wave from mounting an offense to counter.

Not allowing more than one hit in any single innings, Phillip Irwin made it extremely difficult for the Red Devils to score.  It took two errors in the same inning for Germantown to put a mark in the run column.  Aggressive base running resulted in two balls being thrown into the dugout and giving the Brothers a few easy runs.  Brent Moss (3-4, RBI), Dylan Bateman (2-3), Jeremy Finney (2-4, 2 RBI's) along with timely hits by Daniel Vanaman, Logan Forsythe, Alan Wright, and Bryan Rainey showed the Purple Wave was not going to settle for just "easy runs".

After 4 days and nights of rain, the Brothers were faced off against their last opponent looking to add on to the left side of the column.  It was a great game to watch for Brother's fans, not so nice for Mustangs.  Phillip Irwin faced the minimum 9 batters in 3 innings and only 18 for the 5 innings, with two walks.  The Purple Wave offense responded to a great pitching performance by marking Houston's pitchers for 10 earned runs with 10 RBI's on 10 hits, none of which was a homerun.  Dylan Bateman (2-2, 1 RBI), Jeremy Finney (2-3, double, triple, 5 RBI's), John Morgan (2-3), Daniel Vanaman (1-2, 3 RBI's).

Two defensive errors in the first inning and the Brothers quickly found themselves behind.  The third inning was the only one where the Purple Wave did not get a hit.  Unfortunately, their 13 hits would not overcome the 10 hits the Mustangs would pile on, getting at least one in each inning!  Jimmy Washam (3-3, triple, RBI), Alan Wright (3-4, RBI), Daniel Vanaman (2-4, RBI), John Morgan (2-4) and Logan Forsythe (2-4) would do their part offensively to keep the Brothers in the game, but it just would not be enough over several Purple Wave mistakes.

3-up, 3-down in the top of the first, followed by double, single, triple and the Brother's quickly found themselves behind.  Collierville played like a team with a score to settle from a previous loss.  Unable to get an offense going, not playing sound defense, Drew Clothier's efforts at holding the Dragons to just two more runs, and two more hits for the last 5 innings would be wasted.  The only time the Purple Wave would put together two hits in an inning, they would score two runs.  Besides that 4th inning the Brothers would only get 5 runners into scoring position.  Though the Brother's number of hits (6) would not top the number of errors (7), their number of strike outs would (8).

Pitching well, perhaps it was the one out error in the top of the 3rd, that distracted Chris Garrett as he would give up back-to-back doubles (that would score a run) and a walk.  Thanks to Jeremy Finney gunning down two base runners the 3rd ended without too much bleeding.  A quick 3-up, 3-down in the bottom of the third put Garrett right back out to the wolves.  Giving up single, single, dinger, the Purple Wave would find themselves down 5-2 with no outs.  Garrett would shake the distraction as he settled down to see the minimum 12 hitters for the remaining 12 outs of the game.  Walk, single, walk would load the bases for Brent Moss (1-3, 3 RBI's) to clear them off with a double down the left field line.  Moss would later score off Alan Wright's (2-2, RBI) single for the final run of the game.  The 3-1 record at the Toya National Classic earns the Brother's 5th place.

You could not ask for a better national tournament game.  As a Brother fan, you could have asked for a different outcome.  Though the Red Devils would out hit the Purple Wave (8-2 through 6 innings), the Brothers would play solid defense and with those 8 hits spread out over 5 innings the game remained a pitching battle.  Back-to-back hits in the 3rd would put the Red Devils on top for a short period.  In the bottom of the third, John Morgan (2-3, HR) would tie it up with a shot over the scoreboard at USA #1.  Giving up another run in the 5th (runner who reached on the only Brother's error), the Purple Wave would still put themselves in a position to win.  Bottom of the 7th,  with bases loaded, Germantown's third baseman would make an incredible, probably game saving, jumping snag of a line drive down the third base line for the final out.

Not very sharp, walking 3 and giving up two hits in the top of the first inning, Drew Clothier allowed the Eagles to put the Brothers in the hole early.  With the momentum, ECS pitching quickly retired the first two the Purple Wave sent to the plate.  Then, Daniel Vanaman (2-4, double, RBI) slapped a two out double.  Logan Forsythe follows up with a walk, then two stolen bases later Dylan Bateman (1-3, 3 RBI's) is looking at runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2-2 count and fouling off another 2 pitches when he gets a hold of a good pitch and drives the left fielder into the wall watching the ball clear the fence.  Holding onto a lead, Clothier would settle down little and make it 5 innings.  In the meanwhile, Brent Moss (2-4, HR, 2 RBI's) would send an 0-1 pitch deep over the center field wall and the Brothers would tack on an additional 4.  With bases loaded and one out in the top of the 7th, Chris Garrett would earn his first save, striking out the first batter he faced, and getting the next a fly out to preserve Clothier's W.

12 K's and no BB's, Matt Packer gave the Owls little chance to score and solid defense by the Purple Wave made sure no Owl would roost home.  Brent Moss (3-4, 2-doubles, 1 RBI), Logan Forsythe (2-3, triple, 3-RBI’s), Daniel Vanaman (2-4, 2-RBI’s), Jimmy Washam (2-4, 2-RBI’s), Jeremy Finney (1-2) would slap MUS pitching around for the Brothers 10 hits, along with RBI’s from John Morgan, Josh Speerly, Dylan Bateman and Bryan Rainey, the Brothers would drive in 9 of their 10 runs.

Frustrated by defensive blunders galore, John Daush stayed focused, gave up only one hit and 2 walks to earn the W.  Tied after 4, the Brothers knuckled down and tacked on 5 more runs over the next two innings.  Defensively for the next 3 innings, the Purple Wave set down the Eagles in order.  Daush would strike out 4 of the last 9, and get the other 5 ground balls the infield would handle wit out error.  In the lead off spot, Jeremy Finney would continue to be a tough out, going 3-4 with 3 runs scored.  Daniel Vanaman drops is average, only going 2-4, with 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

As the Brothers win a 4 game series against the Indians, they again, for the 4th straight time, were held below double digit hits on the game.  Five different Brother's Boys got the hits, and 4 of this hits accounted for the 4 RBI's on the game.  Dylan Bateman's double and Brent Moss's triple were the only extra base hits the Purple Wave could manufacture against a tough Indian pitcher.  With only 2 hits in one inning the Brothers did a great job of ball placement to move the 10 base runners they would get into scoring positions.  Though Chris Garrett would allow 6 hits, he spaced them out over 4 innings, the consectutive walk-double-single would be the only time one of this hits lead to a run.

On a beautiful day for baseball, the Brothers made it better by playing two, and in the first one, showing how much they enjoyed ending a game in 5 innings by repeating their last game performance.  The only two hits Irwin gave up were to lead off batters in the 1st and 2nd and he stayed ahead of most of Northside's hitters.  Brent Moss (2-2, 2 RBI HR), Daniel Vanaman (2-3, 3 RBI's), Jimmy Washam (1-1, RBI double), John Morgan (1-2, RBI - actually 2-2 but the 11 run lead makes the close call on the grounder he beat out go against the Brothers), and Josh Speerly (1-2) accounted for 7 of the Brothers 10 RBI's as they handed the Indians a loss on their first home game in a week.

Game two of the home double header and great pitching combined with great defense to get the Brothers their first shut out of the year.  It was not until the 5th inning Clothier would allow a base runner (and that was a HBP).  Grant Box decided to help his pitcher out and threw that runner out trying to steal second.  Jeremy Finney (3-3, triple, 3 RBI's), Daniel Vanaman (2-3, HR, 3 RBI's), and Logan Forsythe (1-3, 2 RBI double) ignited the offense and kept the Purple Wave scampering around the diamond to give the Brothers their first run rule game of the season.

Giving up two in the top of the first, the Brothers wasted no time getting on the board themselves.  Following Finney's lead off single, Brent Moss smacked a triple to the wall to score Finney and set himself up to score on Daniel Vanaman's first pitch sacrifice fly to center.  As all 8 of the Purple Wave's hits came from different batters, they were timely and lead to 5 RBI's.  Good pitching lead to great defense as the Indians could only get 4 more batters to second base for 6 innings.

Behind by 6 the Senatobia Warriors put together a 6 hit, botthom ½ of the 3rd to tie it up.  A Warrior pitching change kept the Purple Wave to just 2 hits for the next three innings.  Stuck in a single digit hit total, the Brothers kept the game tied until they could break into double digits in the 8th inning. It was in the 8th, with the scored tied at 7, with one out, Jeremy Finney (2 for 4) took is second pitch deep over the center field fence and put the Brothers on top 8-7.  Seth Walker picked up the victory on the hill for the Brothers, Jimmy Washam was 2 for 3 and picked up his first RBI of the season.  Brent Moss and Daniel Vanaman were both 3 for 5 with 2 RBI's, and Jeremy Finney was 2-4.

Lead off triple, double, double by Jeremy Finney (2-3, two 2B), Brent Moss (1-3, 2B) and Daniel Vanaman (4-5, 2B, 5 RBI) put the Brothers up early.  Keeping the first alive, Dylan Bateman (4-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Matt Packer (2-4) gained the Brothers nine batters in the first and a 4-0 lead.  Sending another 6 to the plate in the second, Finney got his second double, and Logan Forsythe (2-4) slapped a triple to get the Brothers in position to add two more.  Only sending 12 batters to the plate the next 3 innings, the Purple Wave could not muster another run, but they did accumulate 6 more hits.  A Lion's pitching change in the 6th and a 6-5 lead, motivated the Brothers to get some insurance and they sent 13 to the plate, 8 of which made it back across.

Off to a good start with 4 in the top of the first, the Brothers fell victim to some early season mistakes defensively and on the bases.  Again out hitting their opponent, the Purple Wave was unable to pull it all together to beat the Lions.  But fight was deep in the Brothers heart.  Falling behind four times, they managed to take the lead twice, and to tie once.  The fourth time, in their last at bat, the Brothers pushed one across the plate, but just could not get the other two.  Josh Speerly was 3-4 with 2 RBI's, Jeremy Finney, Daniel Vanaman, Logan Forsythe and Matt Packer were all 2-4 and combined for 5 RBI's, with Matt Packer picking up a solo HR, his first on the season.

Not to be out done by Packer's performance in game 1 of the Smyrna Invitational, Drew Clothier took the hill and threw 6.3 innings of 7 hit ball and racked up 14 K's of his own.  With is pitch count high and a lead of walk, and single, the Brother's went to relief to close out the game.  Then wheel's fell off.  With eight total walks in the game, seven of them in the top of  the seventh, the Warriors took a one run lead.  The Brothers fought hard with three hits and aggressive base running to tie the game.  Unfortunately Riverdale did not give up either, and tacked on another 4 in the eighth to stay undefeated.

Johnny Whole Staff combined for 7 innings of 7 pitchers holding the Senatobia Warriors to just 3 hits.  John Daush actually picked up the Brothers first win of the season as they beat the Warriors 7-4.  Drew Clothier started the game giving up a couple walks before he settled down to strike out 3 in a row, and Dylan Bateman picked up a save.   It would be the 7th inning before Senatobia gained an earned run.  Though Johnny combined for 9 K’s in the game, they also amassed 5 walks and 2 hit batters.  Offensively, Brent Moss doubled, Grant Box had an RBI double, Logan Forsythe was 1 for 2 also being hit twice, and Daniel Vanaman smacked two doubles that produced 3 RBI’s and kept the Brothers on top the whole game.  Next up for the Purple Wave is the Smyrna Invitational with two games this Friday and Saturday in Murfreesboro.
